When pregnant of my first daughter I quickly became aware of how generally accepted pharmaceutical drugs are, even when treating newly born humans. I was astonished on how little attention there was for supporting the infants own natural immune system in the early 00's. Luckily I was blessed with open-minded doctors around me, and even though I am forever grateful to have had the medical care that was needed, I truly found my roots in holistic treatments and self-care for both my children and my-Self.

The word aromatherapy can be misleading as it suggests that it is a form of therapy that is only available on the emotions work through smell.

In addition to the scent, each oil has unique combination of effective components that supports the immune system. The oils can be absorbed by the blood and lymphatic system, for instance through skin contact in combination with a carrier oil.

During my pregnancy and in the early years of parenting, playing around with books and organic essential oils became more important for me. In 2006 I turned to my trusted Yoga- instructor at the time, Anat Geiger who I knew runs her own Aromatherapy practice and Is schooled in the UK. I am so lucky to have received private Aromatherapy and Massage Classes by Anat Geiger in her own practice! We had so much fun and the study was so thoroughly created, Anat- Style. I work from a holistic approach with organic products, where the well-being of the client comes first.

During these times I intoxicate my family home with oils such as:

Tea Tree which has it's roots in Australia as a native plant and is well known and appreciated around the world for the antiviral and cleansing properties. I use Lavendula Angustifolia: "the real Lavender" to calm the nervous-system and create a comforting and relaxed scent in the house. Another up side of Lavender is to my opinion that this oil helps to smoothly blend the oils together in a mixture of oils. As it is a Mid tone oil it can function to amplify and enhance the personal blend of oils. Marjoram I diffuse to support overall wellbeing, release toxins in the respiratory system and stimulate the senses. Cypress  with his rank and tall appearance is to be found in ancient lands where it was known for it's relief with fixed koch, as it dissolves mucus in the lungs and sinus.

Rubs and body oils:

When working with essential oils we need to be mindful with direct skin contact as there are very little oils suitable to apply on direct skin. A standard aromatherapy massage is done with approximately 15- 36 drops of pure oil added to 50ml carrier oil. There is a way to go about it, as we make a symphony of oils by using 1/6 undertone oils such as, roots, resin, tree oils: we use 2/6 of herbal and spice oils and then we add: 3/6 of flowery and leafy oils.

HOT TIP
A baby bottle Au bain marie can be used to warm the oils up to 40 degrees C before applying them to the moist skin after a shower.

Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils to support and care for one self is applied to one on one consultancy and group classes.

Maintenance with essential oils..

A tiny household with three evolving woman living wild and free in a city that's in constant motion and a beautiful man flying back and forth from Brussels; this calls for some serious housekeeping! Last summer there was a plague of Bedbugs in Europe and we all got our taste. Apart from frequent streaming I made room sprays with the girls to protect us from bugs and pests. We use all kinds of mixtures and potions to enhance daily life, AND IT WORKS!

The recipe below is especially to scare off bugs and pests;

(a pleasant biproduct is that rooms stay freshly scented for days)

500ML spray :

* 20 drops Melaleuca Alternifolia / teatree

* 20 drops Lavendula Angustofolia

* 20 drops Mentha Piperita

Fill to top with tapwater
